Fund supermarkets

These have become very popular for ISA and PEP investment and now the newer SIPP plans are using them too. Supermarkets give access to hundreds of different funds from all the main fund managers on one platform and allow low-cost switching between the different groups.

The two largest supermarkets are Co-funds and Fidelity Funds Network but a number of others are emerging. Unlike some IFAs, Chandos Rose deals with all of the main supermarkets and discounts the charges.

Advantages Disadvantages
  • Access to hundreds of funds and investment groups
  • On-line valuations and investment control
  • Some IFAs discount fund charges
  • A bewildering range of choices
  • Difficult to switch between supermarkets
  • Not all supermarkets offer the same functions
